Dr. Corbitt was born and raised in the Piney Woods of East Texas graduating from Crockett High School in 1972. He was the first member of his extended family to obtain a college degree. He accomplished this plateau with his B.S. from Texas A&M University, Summa Cum Laude, in 1976. He was simultaneously attending the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and graduated from there in 1979 as one of the five finalists for the prestigious Gold Headed Cane Award.

His internship and residencies were done at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth from 1979-1985, which included Family Practice and Orthopedic tenures. Dr. Corbitt's last year of residency was spent with Dr. Keith Watson, developing his interest in shoulder problems and their treatment. This was followed by a sabbatical with Dr. Richard Hawkins in London, Ontario, for more shoulder training.
